Amira's "Basics" classes are designed to introduce you to the world of cultural dance, providing a sense of well-being and self-confidence by giving our students a feeling of accomplishment and improved self image.  Dance training improves coordination and discipline while toning muscles, reshaping your body and feeding your heart!

Belly Dance Basics


Learn
the basic vocabulary of Middle Eastern Dance moves. Classic shimmies, hip work, veil work, and arm technique are emphasized in the beginning classes. Choreography is taught along with combinations to strengthen transitional movements and the dancer's self expression.   From the movements and exercises covered in this class you will develop excellent posture, flexibility, and grace along with strengthening the body. This class can be for those who simply want exercise, but it is also a great introduction to the world of performing arts.






East Indian Basics

Embrace the drama and dance that is such an important part of East Indian life, its variety represents the diversity in the area's complex blend of  culture, history, and belief systems. 







Flamenco Basics

Hear the music, learn the rhythm, feel the passion!  Learn the fundamentals of flamenco dance, including basic body stance, footwork, arm and handwork, and palmas (hand clapping). Students will learn choreography and how to clap in rhythm to the music, while also learning about the colorful history of this vibrant dance.




Hula Basics

Discover the grace and magnetism of the art of hula!   Beginning moves, South Seas history and culture pave the way for the story telling nature of this beautiful dance.





Tribal Basics

Learn the fundamentals and beginning vocabulatry of Improvisational Tribal Style (ITS) - a dance form using the group synchronization or cued choreography based on movements from American Tribal Style (ATS) belly dance.  This popular dance form is sweeping the nation!   This is a non-performing class.





Yoga Basics

For those new to yoga, wishing for a refresher course or getting back to fundamentals. Study the basic standing and supine postures, learn to flow and link poses to breath, and challenge themselves by trying new things. Proper alignment is the focus of this class, as well as learning to find balance and stillness within each pose.
